MANILA, Philippines — Various progressive organizations protested the ongoing water shortage crisis affecting Metro Manila outside the Metropolitan Waterworks Sewerage System (MWSS) and Manila Water office in Quezon City on Friday.

More than 50 members of groups Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), Bayan Muna, Gabriella, Kabataan, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, and Agham Youth stormed the Manila Water gates in a so-called “Black Friday Protest,” saying that their daily lives have been interrupted by the water problem.

They also called on the Manila Water’s management to prioritize efficient services to their consumers before embarking on various local and international ventures.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has deployed around 50 of its personnel in the area to ensure the peace and order situation.

Previously, Manila Water officials told authorities that the water supply could only normalize by around August, as water levels at the La Mesa Dam continue to plunge. /je
