Duterte should skip Edsa People Power events on Feb. 25 — Enrile
MANILA, Philippines — When asked if President Rodrigo Duterte should skip the People Power Revolution events on Feb. 25, former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile agreed, saying the fight against the Marcos regime ended on Feb. 25, 1986.
“Sa aking pananaw tama yun, ang February 25, 1986, tapos na yung labanan. Bumaba na ang Presidente ng Pilipinas at umalis na papunta nasa Hawaii,” Enrile said over local radio station DWIZ on Saturday.
Enrile was referring to the events of February, 25, 1986 when former President Ferdinand Marcos fled to Hawaii following the People Power revolution.
Enrile was also reacting on Malacañang’s statement that Duterte may not attend any event in connection with People Power Revolution on Feb. 25.
“Pero um-attend ba sya noon? Last time, wala naman siya. Two years nang wala so most likely hindi rin aattend,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Wednesday.
Enrile said the events of Feb. 22, 1986 were more important for him as it was then that they had risked their lives for the country.
