More than 50 iguanas seized from Filipino at Naia 2
MANILA, Philippines–Bureau of Customs inspectors seized more than 50 iguanas smuggled by a Filipino traveler from Bangkok, Thailand, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 2 on Friday morning.
The suspect, Neil Ryan Dysoco, is facing a charge of importing wildlife species without permit, a violation of Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.
Dysoco was accosted by customs agents and ordered to submit his luggage for inspection upon his arrival on board a Philippine Airlines flight.
Upon examination of his two luggage, the customs agents found 56 iguanas, five of which were already dead. Some of the iguanas were concealed inside black socks.—JEROME ANING
