1,000 families affected, 5 hurt in Mandaluyong fire

MANILA, Philippines — Around 1,000 families were affected and five hurt in a fire that broke out at a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Friday afternoon, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

Fire Officer I Christine Pascual said the fire started at 4:20 p.m. at Block 22 extension, Brgy. Addition Hills in Mandaluyong.

The blaze reached fifth alarm at 5:23 p.m., the BFP said.

Around 18 firetrucks from different fire districts including Quezon City, Makati City, Manila City, and San Juan City responded to battle the blaze.

According to BFP Mandaluyong, Senior Fire Officer 2 Luciano Regis was among those injured in the incident.

BFP Mandaluyong Fire Chief Christine Cula said the fire was declared under control at 8:20 p.m.

The fire was put out at 10:15 p.m.

Cula said the fire razed 200 to 300 shanties.

Damage to property was estimated at P2.5 million.
