DIGOS CITY, Philippines — Police announced Saturday the arrest of two suspected members of a syndicate involved in the printing of counterfeit money and seizure of about P100,000 in fake bills during an operation here.

Superintendent Allan Manibog of the regional police intelligence office  said the suspects were apparently waiting for some contacts inside a restaurant here  when collared on Friday.

They were identified as Ramon Magayon, 48, a resident of New Manila, Quezon City; and Delia Malolos, 63, of Barangay Bagong Nayon in Antipolo City.

Manibog said the suspects yielded plastic containers with inks of various hues and bottles of chemicals, which, he said, were to be used in printing more counterfeit bank notes.

FEATURED STORIES

Manibog said the police believed that, judging from the confiscated items, the syndicate had established a printing operation here. But he added the police could not say where exactly the facility was as the two suspects were still being investigated.

“The suspects and confiscated items are now in police custody and the filing of appropriate charges are  being prepared,” he said.

Meanwhile, Manibog advised the public to be vigilant as counterfeit money has been discovered in various parts of the country in recent days.

He advised individuals to immediately turn over to the police bogus money they might have gotten hold of  instead of trying to pass this off to somebody else.

“Simply passing off fake money could land a person in jail,” Manibog warned.
