CABANATUAN CITY–A 49-year-old driver was killed while 13 people were arrested in a series of anti-illegal drugs operations in various parts of Nueva Ecija on Friday.

Police said Joseph Santos, a resident of Poblacion Sur, Talavera, Nueva Ecija, died in a shootout with policemen during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sampaloc of the said municipality at  4:35 a.m.

Investigators recovered a .38-caliber revolver, three sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) and the P500 marked money from the suspect’s body.

Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, director of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office, said those arrested in separate anti-drug stings have been placed in police’s detention facilities while awaiting charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Armand Galang/lzb
