University of Cebu standout shines in two-day tryouts of former UAAP champion team
The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws have landed the wingman that they have coveted as they snagged University of Cebu (UC) standout Roger Pogoy after staging their tryouts recently at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym.
This was enthusiastically announced by FEU head coach Bert Flores in an interview yesterday. He said that the 6-foot-3 Pogoy will most likely land in the varsity squad after impressing him during the two-day tryouts held two weeks ago.
“Dako kaayog purohan na he will have a slot in Team A. He could very well be the future of the squad especially with six players from the squad graduating next year. We really need a wingman right now and his versatility will greatly help the team,” said Flores, who has assumed the head coaching job once again with the departure of former head coach Glenn Capacio.
The last time that the Tamaraws have hoisted the UAAP crown was in 2005, when the Arwind Santos-led squad captured the tail-end of a vaunted three-peat.
The team this season is loaded with talent led by reigning MVP RR Garcia and Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo. They also have JR Cawaling, Aldrech Ramos, Pipo Nuondou, Jens Knuttel and former La Salle ace, Arvie Bringas, among others.
The last time that a Webmaster was snatched up by FEU was several years ago when crafty guard Marty John Pearce was recruited by the Tamaraws. Pearce went on to play for FEU for one season.
