Gov’t troops clash with Abu Dar in Lanao del Sur town
ILIGAN CITY—Soldiers clashed with 30 armed men believed to belong to the Islamic State-inspired Maute group in the hinterland village of Sumalindao, Sultan Dumalondong town of Lanao del Sur at 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 24.
Col. Romero Brawner Jr., 103rd Brigade Commander, told the Inquirer troops belonging to the 55th Infantry Battalion were in operation when they encountered the armed group led by Abu Dar.
Dar is also known as Owaida Benito Marohombsar, who is claimed by the military to be the emir of the IS-inspired group hiding in the hinterlands and the forested areas of Pagayawan and Pualas since June last year.
“This brigade-wide operation is still ongoing,” Brawner said. /lzb
