1 killed, 1 hurt in ‘Wowowin’ studio taping accident
MANILA, Philippines — A member of the audience was killed in an accident during the taping of GMA 7’s variety game show “Wowowin.”
A joint statement from GMA Network and WBR Entertainment said a member of the audience was injured while another lost her life at 5:25 p.m on Tuesday.
“During the Wowowin taping on Tuesday, 22 January 2019 on or about 5:25 in the afternoon, an unfortunate accident transpired during the opening number of the show. One member from the studio audience was injured, while another lost her life,” the statement read.
The statement said Milagros Espiritu was hurt while Estrella Bongot died in the incident.
According to Security Marshal Roel Batang, the two were at the studio’s bleachers and lost their balance while “singing and dancing.” Espiritu suffered a fracture while Bongot was hit by a fire extinguisher.
The statement added that Espiritu and Bognot were immediately attended by “an in-house paramedic of WBR Entertainment and rushed to nearby Delgado Hospital.”

“WBR Entertainment and GMA Network deeply commiserate with, and extended immediate assistance to, the families and loved ones of the victims,” the statement said. /ee
