Mandaue tossers log 2nd win

DEFENDING champion Mandaue City posted its second straight win yesterday after handily beating Borbon in straight sets in the ongoing Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.

Mandaue, with its roster chock-full of stars including former RP team members Jusabelle Brillo, Genie Sabas, Rachel Singson, Danika Gendrauli, Apple Saraum, Kennete Garces and imports Joanne Bunag and Erika Verano, manhandled Borbon, 25-6, 25-11 for a, 2-0 record in Bracket A.

Liloan, behind the efforts of imports and RP team members Aiza Maizo and Jovelyn Gonzaga, also earned its second win in a row after beating Moalboal, 25-7, 25-10 to tie Catmon at the top in bracket B. Catmon defeated Sogod, 25-18, 25-17.

In another game, Barili upended Dalaguete, 25-15, 25-16.

The top two teams at the end of the single round-robin quarterfinal round will advance to the crossover semifinals.

Meanwhile, the elementary division will start this weekend while the men’s division will commence next week. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
