Robredo to Duterte: Think of Filipino maids abroad

/ 05:36 AM January 07, 2019

Think of Filipino women hired as househelp abroad.

This was Vice President Leni Robredo’s word of caution to President Duterte, saying it was “scary” that he failed to consider this when he spoke of molesting a family maid when he was still a teenager.

“I wish he’d think that it is not wrong to tell jokes, but some jokes are not meant to be made,” Robredo said on her weekly radio program, “BISErbisyong Leni.”

“For the President to joke like this, you’re making our countrymen worry … If you joke or speak about this, it’s as if you’re normalizing such wrongdoings. I hope this won’t happen again,” she added. —Vince F. Nonato
