LIST: Names of tropical cyclones for 2019
MANILA, Philippines – Chedeng, Liwayway, and Viring are some of the names that the weather bureau (Pagasa) will be giving to tropical cyclones that will visit the country in 2019.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) assigns a local name for tropical cyclones that enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
Pagasa listed the names as follows:
1.) Amang
2.) Betty

6.) Falcon
7.) Goring
8.) Hanna
9.) Ineng
10.) Jenny
11.) Kabayan
12.) Liwayway (a replacement for Typhoon Lando)
13.) Marilyn
14.) Nimfa
15.) Onyok
16.) Perla
17.) Quiel
18.) Ramon
19.) Sarah
20.) Tisoy
21.) Ursula (a replacement for TS Urduja)
22.) Viring
23.) Weng
24.) Yoyoy
25.) Zigzag
Pagasa has four sets of names for tropical cyclones that are used every four years, which means these names would also be used in 2023, 2027, 2031 and so on.
Aside from the original list, Pagasa also prepared an auxiliary list containing 10 names just in case the names on the original list are already used. The names are:
1.) Abe
2.) Berto
3.) Charo
4.) Dado
5.) Estoy
6.) Felion
7.) Gening
8.) Herman
9.) Irma
10.) Jaime
The weather bureau decommissions a name when it has caused at least 300 deaths and P1 billion worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure.
A name can also be dropped if it is closely associated with a prominent personality in order to avoid public ridicule. /cbb
