Philippine Taekwondo group slams bullying incident in viral video

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) has condemned the bullying incident involving a Taekwondo practitioner as seen on a video that went viral.

In a statement on Thursday, the group said it “condemns any form of misbehavior that includes harassment, bullying, and acts of violence.”

“This is not what Taekwondo instills in its practitioners and is a serious matter that we as an association stand against,” the statement added.

The PTA also noted modesty as “one of the five tenets of Taekwondo that is being taught to all Taekwondo practitioners from the first day of training.”

It added, “Our association reiterates its objective to teach all Taekwondo practitioners self-respect and respect for others.”

The group was referring to a bullying incident caught on video at the premises of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Junior High School.

In the viral video, a student of the ADMU Junior High School appeared to verbally and physically taunt another student inside the bathroom.

ADMU said in a statement on Thursday it has already launched an investigation on the matter and that a disciplinary decision would be issued after.

Meanwhile, the PTA said it would support any disciplinary actions imposed by the school. The group also vowed to further investigate the matter with the individuals involved./lb
