4 mild quakes hit Philippines

MANILA, Philippines—Four mild earthquakes shook the Philippines early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The quakes took place between 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., said Phivolcs.

The first tremor occurred at 1:01 a.m., with a magnitude of 3.3. Its epicenter was located 17 kilometers southwest of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Phivolcs said.

At 1:11 a.m., an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was recorded by Phivolcs, with its epicenter located 162 kilometers southwest of General Santos City.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 took place at 3:09 a.m., with its epicenter located 179 kilometers east of Mati, Davao Oriental, it said.

At 4:11 a.m., a 3.9 magnitude tremor was detected with its epicenter located 43 kilometers northeast of Butuan City.

All four quakes were tectonic in origin and left no damages to property, Phivolcs said.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
