990AM: PCG deploys response team to check on marooned ship in Batanes

[jwplayer mediaid=”10542″ bufferlength=”10″]MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed on Monday an oil spill response team to check a cargo ship that ran aground in Basco, Batanes last week, a report on Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.

PCG spokesperson Algier Ricafrente was quoted by the report as saying that there was no oil spill but the team was sent in to check for possible leaks or holes in the vessel.

The report also quoted Captain Geoge Ursabia, PCG Northern Luzon District commander, who stated that there were 6,000 liters of diesel inside the vessel. He said that the vessel will be removed from the area.

The MV Double Prosperity, a cargo tanker which has been beached on Bakud Reef in Sarangani since May 8, has not been moved according to the report.

The PCG was still unloading coals of up to 4,000 to 8,000 metric tons from the MV Double Prosperity, a task expected to be completed by June 3, the report said.
