American wanted for fraud in the US faces deportation

An American wanted in the United States (US) for fraud is set to be deported after his arrest in Parañaque City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Wednesday.

The BI identified the American as 81-year-old Harold Leigh Andrews, who was arrested in his condominium unit at the East Bay Residence in Parañaque City on Nov. 7.

The immigration bureau had issued a deportation order against Andrews in August for overstaying and being an undesirable alien.

“We will deport him for being undesirable, overstaying and undocumented alien. He no longer holds a valid passport because it was already revoked by the US government,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.

Andrews will be immediately flown to the US once deportation has been cleared. He has also been placed on the bureau’s blacklist to prevent him from returning to the country.

Andrews was reportedly indicted for multiple counts of fraud before the grand jury of Baldwin County in Alabama and he allegedly fled to the Philippines to avoid arrest and prosecution.

Andrews arrived in the Philippines in January 2013 has since been hiding in the country. He has not extended his stay ever since.  /cbb
