3 die as landslide traps 30 people in building in Mountain Province
A landslide caused by Typhoon “Rosita,” internationally known as “Yutu,” trapped on Tuesday some 30 people inside a building of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Natonin town in the Mountain Province, according to a report posted on the website of the Herald Express, a news organization based in Baguio City.
According to the report, the landslide happened sometime between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Three of those trapped were confirmed dead, as their bodies had been recovered by emergency responsders.
The building, which houses the 2nd Mountain Province District Engineering Office of the DPWH, is in Barangay Banawel in Natonin.
At the time of the landslide, the building was also serving as a temporary shelter for evacuees.
