3-meter storm surges seen from ‘Rosita’; 5 areas under Signal No. 3

The state weather bureau warned of storm surges of up to three meters in some coastal areas in Luzon provinces due to Typhoon Rosita (international name Yutu).

Storm surges were likely over Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and La Union, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Five areas were placed under Signal No. 3 as of Monday afternoon ahead of Rosita’s expected landfall over Southern Isabela-Northern Aurora area on Tuesday morning.

Isabela, Quirino, Northern Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, and Ifugao were under Signal No. 3.

Signal No. 2 was raised over Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Northern Quezon including Polillo Island, Southern Aurora, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan.

Southern Quezon, Batanes and Babuyan group of Islands, Rizal, Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Cavite, and Camarines Norte were under Signal No. 1.

Rosita maintained its strength of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph, moving westward at 15 kph.

The typhoon was last spotted 310 kilometers east-nor

theast of Casiguran, Aurora.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Northern and Central Luzon by Monday evening./ac
