Sara Duterte seeks reelection; brother Baste possible running mate

DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Duterte is seeking reelection, ending speculations she will run for senator in next year’s elections.
Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) in the Commission on Elections office here at 4 p.m. on Monday, accompanied by her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, and her supporters.
Earlier on Monday, Mayor Duterte accompanied local candidates under her Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party in filing their COCs.
With the mayor seeking reelection, HNP’s lineup was almost complete, with her brother, resigned Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, among the candidates.
Paolo, the President’s eldest son, last week filed his COC for representative of the city’s first district.
The party, however, has yet to decide on its candidate for vice mayor.
Mayor Duterte said her slate was considering two possible candidates, one of them her younger brother, Sebastian, or Baste.
Sara said she asked Baste to be her running mate, but the family was still waiting for word from the President.
Also on Monday, a neighbor of Paolo Duterte, Susana Uyanguren of Sitio Guadalupe, Barangay Catalunan Grande, went to the Comelec to challenge his congressional bid in the first district. /ee /pdi
