Another SC vacancy: JBC opens process

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has opened applications and recommendations for the Supreme Court seat that would be vacated when Justice Noel Tijam retires on Jan. 5, 2019.

The deadline for the submission of the applications and recommendations is on Nov. 5, according to the JBC announcement issued on Friday.

Applicants must submit two sets of documents, including their latest personal data sheets, transcripts of law school records, certificates of employment, or assumption to office, income tax returns, birth certificates, membership certificates from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, medical exam results and clearances from the police, National Bureau of Investigation and Office of the Ombudsman.

For those who serving in the government, they must also submit sworn statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) for the last 10 years.

Those from the private sector who have never served in government need only to submit a SALN as of Dec. 31, 2017.

The seven-member JBC, chaired by the Chief Justice, is the constitutional body tasked with screening applicants for justices and preparing a list of at least three nominees from which the President would pick.
