College teacher nabbed for drugs in Abra

BAGUIO CITY – An instructor of a public college in Abra province was arrested during a drug bust on Wednesday, after he sold shabu (crystal meth) to an undercover police officer in Bangued town, police said.

Giovanni Calicdan, 46, was caught with three sachets of shabu and a handgun during the sting operation at Barangay Zone 4.

Calicdan moved from Baguio City to the Abra town of Lagangilang to work as an instructor at the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) campus there.

The teacher denied selling drugs, but admitted that he was a substance abuser.

In a statement on Thursday, ASIST said its faculty and staff members are subjected to drug tests.

The college administration also assured the public that no drugs have been sold in their Bangued and Lagangilang campuses.
