A stronger ‘Paeng’ heads towards Taiwan

Typhoon “Paeng” (international name “Trami”) continued to gain strength on Monday as it headed towards Taiwan, the weather bureau said.

The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 210 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Weather specialist Ariel Rojas said Paeng could make landfall in Taiwan later in the week.

Paeng was spotted 1,100 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, moving at 20 kph west northwest.

Fair weather is seen across the Philippines, but localized thunderstorms are also expected. /cbb
