3 areas under Signal No. 3 as ‘Ompong’ moves closer to Northern Luzon

Three areas were placed under Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Ompong moved closer to Northern Luzon, the state weather bureau said Friday morning.

“Ompong” was last spotted 605 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, maintaining its maximum sustained winds of 205 kph and gusts of up to 255 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

It was moving west northwest at 20 kph.

“Ompong” is expected to make landfall over the Cagayan-Isabela area on Saturday morning.

Northern and Central Luzon are expected to bear the brunt of the typhoon, the strongest to hit the country this year. /muf
