Still fearing an arrest, Trillanes says he will not leave Senate

Senator Antonio Trillanes will stay at the Senate despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s assurance that he would not be arrested without a warrant of arrest.

Trillanes said on Monday that the statement of Duterte might just be a “trap”  to arrest him and he “won’t fall for that.”

He said based on his talks with members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Duterte still has a standing order to arrest him.

“May order pa rin kasi sa kanila to arrest me (There is still an order to arrest me). I know for a fact based on our engagements with the Armed Forces that they still have a standing order to arrest me,” he said.

“Ang problema kasi doon sa statement niya, mayroon siyag deniability eh. Kaya nga vinalidate natin doon sa grounds, sa operating units, and meron pa rin eh (The problem in his statement is he has a history of denying statements. So we need to validate that on the grounds — at the operating units),” Trillanes added.

During his trip to Jordan, Duterte said that he would “abide by the rule of law” and would wait for the issuance of an arrest warrant before arresting Trillanes.
