BRP Gregorio del Pilar now in Subic

The Philippine Navy flagship BRP Gregorio del Pilar has finally reached safe harbor more than a week after it run aground in the vicinity of Hasa-Hasa Shoal (Half-Moon Shoal) in a disputed part of the West Philippine Sea last Aug. 29.

In a statement, the Philippine Navy Public Affairs Office reported that the frigate had arrived at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority port in Olongapo City on Friday.

Inspection was ongoing to determine the extent and cost of repairs needed, though Navy spokesperson, Commander Jonathan Zapata, said the ship was really scheduled to undergo repair and maintenance this year.

Martina ‘Tinay’ Orioste; 90

Martina “Tinay” Orioste died on Thursday, Sept. 6. She was 90.

She was survived by children Teresa and Jesus Enano Jr., Edison and Norie Orioste, grandchildren Jhesset Thrina, Jhester Jhoy, Martina Valentin and Christian Clapton Edison and brother Renato.

Wake is at St. Peter Chapels in San Pablo City, Laguna province.

Burial will be on Sept. 11 at Dolores Memorial Park in Quezon province, after morning Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Dolores.
