Pilot of ill-fated Xiamen jet has left the country – CAAP

The pilot of the ill-fated Xiamen Air Flight MF8667 that overshot the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport left the Philippines.

The pilot and first officer of the aircraft were barred from leaving the country pending investigation of the incident.

But during the hearing of the Senate committee on public services on Wednesday, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco disclosed that the pilot was already allowed to leave the country.

“Maam umalis ho sila Tuesday this week ,” Sydiongco said, responding to Senator Grace Poe’s query.

Poe’s committee is inquiring into the August 16 incident that affected thousands of passengers who were stranded at the airport.

Representatives of the airline, including its general manager, Lin Huagun, attended the hearing. /cbb
