In show of unity, PDP-Laban rallies behind PDP Cares
In a show of unity, leaders of the ruling political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) rallied behind the party’s humanitarian arm “PDP Cares,” which celebrated its first anniversary.
PDP Cares is the political party’s humanitarian organization which provides relief assistance to calamity-stricken areas.
Unity more important than ever
President Rodrigo Duterte, chairman of PDP-Laban, emphasized the importance of solidifying the party and presenting a united front in pushing for reforms in the government.
“As we go for reforms in this administration, our unity is now more important than ever,” Duterte declared before members of the party.
“I therefore ask your continued support of PDP-Laban and its partners in creating practical solutions to address the root cause of our nation’s problems,” he said.

Alvarez, the secretary general of PDP-Laban, said that the party remains committed to “caring” for the marginalized under “PDP Cares.”
“This commitment to continue caring is the clearest proof that we as a party remain strong as ever,” said Alvarez, who was recently ousted as House Speaker.
“Your presence here tonight is the best exhibit of our united front,” he said.
PDP Cares apolitical
Senator Koko Pimentel III, the national president of PDP-Laban, emphasized that “PDP Cares” is apolitical.
Pimentel said that volunteers and leaders of the organization will never be involved in politics.
“They are not politicians. They will never be involved in politics,” he said.
“I promise to you as president of the party that there is a wall which cannot be breached between the politics of the party and the humanitarian arm of the party,” he added.
The party was recently embroiled in a controversy amid reported internal conflicts, one of which involved the ouster of Alvarez as House Speaker.
After Alvarez was replaced by Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, a group led by a certain Rogelio Garcia attempted to elect new officers and called themselves the “genuine” members of PDP-Laban. /ee
