The San Roque dam in Pangasinan continues its spilling operations after its water elevation remained above the normal high-water level, the National Power Corporation (Napocor) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Engr. Conrado Sison, head of Napocor’s Dams Management Department, said as of 10 a.m., the current San Roque dam level was at 285.61 meters above sea level (masl), which is 5.61 masl higher than the normal water level.

Napocor noted at 285.61 masl, there had already been a significant decrease in water elevation from 287.18 masl on Tuesday.

The electricity provider attributed this to the decreased inflow of water from 1,342 cubic meters per second (cms) to 890 cms.

The decrease prompted authorities to reduce gate openings from 6.5 meters (five gates) to just 4.5 meters (three gates), Napocor said.

The municipalities that could be affected by dam spilling operations and are under flood warning zones include San Manuel, San Nicolas, Tayug, Sta. Maria, Villasis, Asingan, Rosales, Alcala, Bayambang and Bautista.

Napocor said it is also looking closely at the situation in Angat Dam in Bulacan, now 7.88 masl higher than its normal high-water elevation of 212 masl.   /vvp
