/ 03:27 PM August 11, 2018

The local government of Marikina City raised the second alarm of Marikina River due to persistent heavy rainfall bought by the southwest monsoon Saturday afternoon.

Water level has reached 16.3 meters as of 2:22 pm, according to the Marikina Public Information Office.

According to the local government of Marikina, Alarm Level 2 is when the water reaches 16 meters (above sea level) and this prompts the residents living near the area to “evacuate.”

The local government would declare a forced evacuation to residents once the river reached its third alarm or 18 meters, according to local policy.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration earlier raised the red warning level in Metro Manila due to expected intense rainfall that threatens floodwaters to rise in the region. /jpv
