Slaughterhouse in QC ordered padlocked

MANILA, Philippines–A slaughterhouse for cows, goats and carabaos at the back of Mega Q-Mart was padlocked Monday after it was found operating without a license and proper drainage system.

City Market administrator Donato Matias, who led the raid on Nathan Slaughterhouse, said the facility’s permit expired in September. He said the slaughterhouse also lacked sanitary system which is requirement by the health inspection unit.

operating without license and proper sanitation,  Dr Ana Maria Cabel of the Quezon City veterinary office also announced on Monday.

Cabel said the illegal slaughterhouses were located in Novaliches, Balintawak Market, Mega Q-Mart  and Commonwealth Avenue, all in QC.

She said the facilities also lacked proper drainage and tiled flooring.

Owners of the slaughter houses are also liable to 6-month imprisonment and fine of P1,000, Cabel said.

The records at the QC Veterinary Office show there are  65 slaughter houses in the city.
