10-year-old girl found dead in Ecija deep well

CABANATUAN CITY — A 10-year-old girl was found dead in a deep well in Lupao town in Nueva Ecija on Saturday, a belated police report said.

The remains of Jessabel Lapena was discovered floating in the well by her father Alexander, 45, in Barangay Mapangpang at 8 a.m., according to Virgilio Sabado, the village chief.

Lapena had been missing since 7:30 a.m. on Friday, and her parents spent the whole day searching for her. The well is located a few meters away from the girl’s home.

The police has not closed the investigation, pending an autopsy due to signs that Lapena suffered head injuries. /ee
