Arroyo vows to ‘carry out’ Duterte’s legislative agenda

Former President and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has promised to push for President Rodrigo Duterte’s legislative agenda in the House of Representatives.

Arroyo, who assumed her new post Monday, said she was “extremely honored” that her colleagues supported her ascension to the Speakership.

“I am extremely honored to have been supported by my colleagues at the House of Representatives to be their new Speaker,” she said in a statement issued Tuesday.

“I will endeavor to carry out the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte in the Lower House,” the Pampanga representative added.

Arroyo replaced Pantaleon Alvarez as House Speaker in a breath-taking scene at the House plenary moments before Duterte delivered his third State of the Nation Address on Monday.  /kga
