LUCENA CITY – An alleged village toughie was shot and killed by riding-in-tandem suspects in Sariaya town in Quezon province Monday morning, police said.

Sariaya police chief Supt. Rafael Torres said the victim, Joie Yana, 40, was traveling aboard his motorcycle when he was repeatedly shot by the suspects riding on a green motorcycle in Barangay (village) Sto. Cristo around 9:30 a.m.

The victim, a resident of Barangay Concepcion 1, sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The suspects fled towards the neighboring town of Candelaria.

Citing information from the village where the victim lives, Torres said Yana had a history of several quarrels with his co-villagers.

“The victim had also been known with frequent firing of his gun whenever he is drunk,” Torres said in a phone interview. Police investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects. /kga
