Biker, 61, dies in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY – A 61-year-old biker died in a road accident in Mauban town in Quezon province Wednesday morning, police said.

Chief Insp. Rodelio Calawit, Mauban police chief, said in a report that Cristobal Zubieto was negotiating a curved section of the highway aboard his mountain bike when he was accidentally hit by an incoming Isuzu Forward truck being driven by Fernando Pureza in Barangay Cagsiay 2 around 8:50 a.m.

Zubieto was thrown off the bike and suffered severe body injuries and died on the spot.

Pureza was detained at the town police jail.

Zubieto was known among bike enthusiasts as the president of the Mauban Mountain Bikers Club.
