CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA — A 19-year-old student was killed in a shootout with policemen, who foiled an alleged drug transaction on Tuesday night in Bella Luz village in San Mateo town.
The San Mateo police intercepted the drug deal involving three men at 10:10 p.m., but the suspects fled in a tricycle and a motorcycle towards Oscariz village in Ramon town.
The Ramon police put up a checkpoint to block the suspects, who opened fire on the policemen as they tried to maneuver towards an irrigation canal.
Genesis Tumumba, a resident of Alfonso Lista town in Ifugao province, was killed when the police fired back, said Chief Insp. Richard Gatan, San Mateo police chief.
Adriano Ganer, 65, also of Alfonso Lista, was arrested but a third accomplice, 24-year-old Ramon resident Patrick Ganer, managed to escape.
According to Gatan, an asset reported a recently completed transaction with the suspects which prompted them to conduct the operation.
