CITY OF CALAPAN – The local government unit (LGU) of Mansalay town, Oriental Mindoro province has advised its residents to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings, after 28 cases of the mosquito-borne illness Chikungunya was reported in the said town.

“We are asking (the residents) to clean our surroundings and avoid stagnant water which is the breeding ground of mosquitos carrying Chikungunya Virus,” said a Facebook post of Tanglaw Mansalay, which is managed by the information office of the Mansalay LGU.

The post added that there would be simultaneous cleaning in all villages once the Chikungunya kits and mist from the province arrive.

Although Chikungunya is not as deadly as dengue, its symptoms are similar, like fever, rashes, headache, nausea, fatigue and acute and long-term arthritis in several joints.
