LUCENA CITY – A man who surrendered to authorities during the government’s campaign against illegal drugs was shot and killed in Calauag town in Quezon province early Sunday.

Police report said Enrique Henry Magdatu was inside a passenger jeepney in Barangay (village) 3 at about 6:30 a.m. when a gunman shot him twice at close range.

Magdatu was hit in the head and died on the spot. The gunman fled on foot.

He still had a pending drug case, according to Chief Insp. Jaytee Tiongco, Calauag police chief.

“The motive could be drug-related. But we’re investigating other possible angles,” Tiongco said in a phone interview. /cbb
