DSWD allocates P4-M funds for shelter of the displaced families in Dumaguete

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas allocated P4.2-million funds to address the shelter need of the displaced and homeless families of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Dubbed Core Shelter Assistance Project (CSAP), this program will benefit 60 indigent families victimized by the flashflood in Dumaguete City nearly three years ago.

Currently, the identified families are living in shanties along rivers and creeks of barangays Tabuc-Tubig, Bagacay, Junob, Cadawinonan, Batinguel, Candau-ay, Balugo, Taclobo and Barangay 8.

With the assistance of the city government—which grants a counterpart of P4.06 million covering the purchase of lot, survey, and site development — each household will receive a 50 sqm land area in the 5,000-sqm relocation site in barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete.

The program was opened through a ground-breaking ceremony led by DSWD Assistant Regional Director Dr. Nemia Antipala and Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
