SAN PEDRO CITY – A construction laborer in Dasmariñas City in Cavite province went missing after he was swept away by a strong river current at the height of heavy rains.
Supt. Alvin Consolacion, city police chief, said search and rescue mission continued Sunday for the victim, Rowel Roxas.
In a phone interview, Consolacion said Roxas with his cousin and son went near the Antipolo river in Barangay (village) Salitran 4 on Saturday afternoon to gather vegetables.
“He reportedly attempted to cross the river but was swept away by the strong current,” Consolacion said. He said it happened as Tropical Storm Domeng dumped heavy rains in the province.
Meanwhile, some passengers and cargoes were stranded at the Dangay port in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro due to the suspension of boat trips, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) said in its weather monitoring report.
A staff member of the Orange Pearl resort identified as Algemon Nuñez was also found dead in Barangay Corong-corong in El Nido, Palawan two days after Nuñez was reported missing on June 6.
The DRRMC report said Nuñez was believed to have fallen off a jetski and drowned. /je
