As “Domeng” intensified into a tropical storm, monsoon rains are expected to intensify over Metro Manila in the coming weekend, the state weather bureau said Friday afternoon.

Tropical Storm Domeng (international name Maliksi) has no direct effect to the country but it will enhance the southwest monsoon (Habagat) over the western section of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Domeng was last spotted 560 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.

It is moving north northeast at 19 kph.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Western Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora, Bataan and Zambales will experience monsoon rains.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated rains.

Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers, Pagasa said. /jpv
