CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Northern Mindanao on Wednesday seized imported goods amounting to about P35 million at the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT) in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental province.
Seized by the BOC-10 were bales of used clothing estimated to be worth P10 million, and a shipment of garlic and onions believed to be worth P25 million.
BOC officials were able to determine that the used clothing came from South Korea and the spices from China. The contraband was placed inside 14 container vans.
Leading the opening of the vans was Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, who visited the MICT.
Lapeña said the consignees failed to properly declare the items, prompting the Customs to seize them.
Under the law, he said, the sequestered goods would be destroyed. JIGGER JERUSALEM
