LIBON, Albay – Two men allegedly involved in various criminal activities were killed in a shootout with the police here early Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Diome Cardano, Libon police chief, said policemen were about to serve warrants of arrest to Noli Maraño and Elan Mark Domdom at Barangay Sagrada Familia around 6 a.m., when they were fired at by the two suspects.

“The lives of my men were in danger so what they did was to return fire, but unfortunately the suspects were hit and died,” Cardano said.

Police said the two were active members of the Maraño group and former members of the Concepcion group.

Both groups have been labeled as notorious for their involvement in robbery, holdup, car theft, gun-for-hire and extortion activities in the third district of Albay.

With the death of Maraño and Domdom, they expect that incidents of hold up, motorcycle theft and extortion from businessmen in this town and neighboring towns like Polangui, Oas and Ligao City would be reduced or stopped, he said.
