Elements of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) have arrested a suspect in the gruesome killing of a prosecutor of the Office of the Ombudsman last Monday morning.
An exclusive video by Radyo Inquirer shows the suspect, Angelito Avenido Jr., being collared by the police in a follow-up operation in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City, hours after the incident.
Avenido is being tagged in the killing of assistant special prosecutor Madonna Joy Ednaco-Tayag, who was stabbed to death in front of a lottery betting station along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City at about 11 am.
At that time Tayag was reportedly looking to buy a cup of milk tea. She was five months pregnant.
“Through the efforts nitong mga imbestigador natin nakakuha ng mga CCTV footage at other evidence which led to the arrest of the perpetrator… Nakakuha rin tayo ng mga witness na magtuturo rito,” said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar
Presenting the suspect to the media, Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde said Avenido resisted arrest, causing bruises and injuries to his body.
According to QCPD chief Chief Supt. Joyet Esquivel, Avenido arrived in Manila from General Santos last March 30 reportedly to elude prosecution for a killing.
“Meron din siyang sinaksak at pinatay doon. Inaalam pa namin yung details,” Esquivel said.
(He also stabbed and killed someone there. We are still looking into the details of that case.)
Esquivel said the suspect was identified through his tattoo, which was caught on closed-circuit television. /cbb
