The militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) urged the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) on Monday to restrict the issuance of working visas to foreigners, especially Chinese nationals, because this would worsen the country’s unemployment.
Samuel Malunes, KMU deputy secretary general, said Dole should be more circumspect in issuing working visas to foreigners for job openings that could otherwise be filled up by Filipinos.
Work in government projects, like the Build, Build, Build program, should be given to Filipinos.
“We have an unemployment problem that is why locals should be prioritized. Why are we allowing this influx? To help solve China’s unemployment problem?” Malunes said. —Jovic Yee
