Solon wants Calida probed on questionable deals
Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate has called for an inquiry into the alleged anomalies hounding Solicitor General Jose Calida.
“Congress should finally look into the supposed questionable dealings of Solicitor General Calida and now seriously reconsider the bill adding more powers to a man who, it seems, has the propensity to abuse them,” Zarate said on Sunday.
The House has approved on final reading House Bill No. 7376, seeking to abolish the Presidential Commission on Good Government and the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel, and transfer their functions to the Office of the Solicitor General.
Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency Inc., a firm wholly owned by Calida and his family, was revealed to have cornered more than P260 million worth of contracts from several government agencies.
Two contracts awarded by the House alone cost P96.19 million.
