LRT-1 on provisional service due to technical problems

The Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) has implemented a provisional service on Sunday after its system encountered technical problems.

In an advisory, the LRT-1 management said that “technical repairs” were ongoing near the Central Station in Quiapo, Manila.

However, Rochelle Gamboa, LRT-1 Head of Corporate Communications, told INQUIRER.net that the incident was “not a major problem.”

“This is not a major problem ha? Parang maintenance repair lang siya,” she said in a phone interview.

Gamboa said the incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. and that the management were forced to implement a provisional service to fix the “catenary wire problem.”

“Kailangan natin kasi patayin yung power sa affected line para maayos natin yung kuryente (We need to turn off power in the affected line for repairs),” she said.

Gamboa assured the passengers of LRT-1 that the problem would be fixed within the day.The LRT-1 line only operates from Blumentritt Station to Roosevelt Station during the service interruption.

The number of affected passengers, according to Gamboa, could not be determined as they do not have “real time monitoring of passenger ingress and egress.”

Full operation of the LRT-1 line from Baclaran station to Roosevelt station went back to normal at 3:35 p.m., Gamboa said in text message./ee
