Luisita lawyer warns SC decision might stir trouble

/ 11:28 AM November 24, 2011

MANILA, Philippines–Hacienda Luisita Inc lawyer Vigor Mendoza said Thursday that the decision of the Supreme Court might create a “bigger problem” as it leaves 4,000 farmers landless.

Mendoza said the Aquino-Cojuangco family has no problem with distributing land to farmers. What they want is a “universal” solution, he noted.

The SC decision, as relayed to them, only covers 6,000 beneficiaries. “What about the 4,000? Maiiwan na lang ba sila sa bangketa?” Mendoza said.

The company would study if it would appeal the ruling. If it leads to more trouble in the plantation, “we will have to tell the Court that,” Mendoza said.
