“I will catch you.”

This was the stern warning of newly installed National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar to criminals and rogue policemen as he takes the helm of Metro Manila’s police force.

In a press briefing shortly after his appointment was announced by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde on Friday, Eleazar urged lawbreakers and erring policemen in the metropolis to stop their illegal activities because he would certainly run after them.

“Tumigil na kayo dahil abot ko kayo,” Eleazar said in a press conference held at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

(Stop your activities because I will catch you.)

Eleazar replaced Dir. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, who is now assigned as head of the Civil Security Group.

Eleazar passed on his duties as chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A in Calabarzon to Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, who was chief of the PRO-Cordillera prior this latest appointment.

Eleazar vowed to continue the momentum in the government’s anti-illegal drugs crackdown in Metro Manila. He also promised to even supplement the so-called war against illegal drugs by reinforcing the drive to weed out the PNP of police scalawags.

“Alam naman natin we cannot be effective on our campaign whether sa illegal drugs or other forms of criminality kung hindi magiging epektibo ang ating mga pulis at sila ay mayroon pang mga ilegal na ginagawa,” he said.

(We know we cannot be effective in our campaign whether against illegal drug or other forms of criminality if our policemen are not effective and they are involved in illegal undertakings.)

He said “rotten” policemen do not have a place in the PNP.

Eleazar then reminded those involved in illegal drugs and other criminal activities that they would be subjects of unrelenting police operations. He also told them to just surrender and not fight back should they get arrested by authorities.

Before assuming the post of Calabarzon police chief in April, Eleazar was the head of the Quezon City Police District since July 2016.

Eleazar belongs to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Hinirang Class of 1987.  /kga
