Freak accident kills septuagenarian in Lucena

LUCENA CITY – A 77-year-old man died in a freak vehicular accident here, police said on Friday.

Report from the Quezon police headquarters revealed that victim Francisco Abarquez was accidentally hit by Leonila Bolos, who was driving her car in reverse around 5 p.m. Thursday in Barangay (village) Cotta.

Police said Bolos tried to stop her vehicle but instead of stepping on the brake pedal, she inadvertently pressed the accelerator pedal and consequently bumped into the victim.

The old man sustained injuries in different parts of his body and died while being rushed to the Mt Carmel Diocesan General Hospital. /kga
