LUCENA CITY – A local “Mayohan” (Maytime) dance party in Real town in Quezon province turned bloody after a dancer was shot and killed early Friday.

The victim, Novy Buni, while dancing with his partner Nelia Bandias, was shot at close range five times by one Allan Regador using a caliber .45 gun in Barangay (village) Ungos around 12:10 a.m., Real police chief Insp. Erwin Papagayo said in a phone interview.

Buni died on the spot. Bandias sustained injury from a stray bullet. The suspect quickly fled after the shooting.

Quoting investigators, Papagayo said the suspect was “overly envious” on the social status of his victim.

“The victim was earning well from his fishing business,” police said.

A police team has been dispatched to hunt down and arrest the suspect, according to Papagayo. /kga
